The Christian County School Board accepted a turf bid package and approved multiple change orders for the Stadium of Champions at Thursday’s meeting.
Before the meeting was called to order, board members recognized the high school students who will be attending a Governor’s Scholar Program over the summer. Then, students Diera English, Caleb Fears and Isaac Stewart were recognized for their performance at the 2026 Kentucky Students Technology Leadership Program State Championship.
Construction of the consolidated Christian County High School continues on schedule and within budget. Kevin Hitchel from Alliance Corporation says they have almost met all of the standards to have a final certificate of occupancy for the school.
A final elevator inspection will be done on May 11, which will allow them to receive a temporary certificate. Then, by May 19, construction crews will finish line striping the asphalt and will apply a finish coat to receive a final certificate of occupancy.
Board members approved seven change orders costing around $280,000. A few of the of the change orders apply to the upgrades at the Stadium of Champions, including demolition work as well as the installation of a drainage system outside of the track, turf behind the field’s end zones, sidewalks, a perimeter fence and asphalt.
Further concerning the stadium, board members approved accepting a turf installation package for around $840,000. Assistant Superintendent Jason Wilson says the stadium’s track and turf renovation is expected to cost around $1.6 million.
Wilson says they originally budgeted for the renovations to cost $2 million. The board also approved the purchase of athletic equipment for soccer, baseball and softball.
