Educator, businessman Mac Arthur passes away

Mac Arthur, a longtime businessman and educator in Christian County, has passed away at the age of 88.

Arthur passed of natural causes on Monday at Bradford Heights Nursing and Rehab Center—born in 1936 to Phillip and Ethel Mae Arthur, he would go on to major in music at Western Kentucky University, and from there he earned his Master’s Degree in Education at the University of Kentucky.

He served as the Band Director for Hopkinsville High School and Hopkinsville Middle in the 1960’s, while also overseeing the choir. In 1969, he was the principal of Hopkinsville High School and served as principal during the merger of the city and county school systems.

Arther and his wife Catherine were the owners of Young Hardware on Sixth Street for many, many years, before finally selling the building in 2018.

Private services will be held at a later date through Hughart, Beard and Giles Funeral Home—memorial contributions can be made to the Christian County Animal Shelter or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
