Teal leads Tigers to 4th-place finish at Area 1 Track Meet

The Hopkinsville Tigers’ track team took fourth place in the Area 1 Track Meet Saturday at Calloway County High School. 

The Tigers were led by Keyshun Teal, who took first place in the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles. Teal broke the 110-meter hurdles tape in 15.18 seconds and ran the 300-meter hurdles in 42.90 seconds. 

Humphrey also took fifth in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.71 seconds. 

Hoptown took three of the top four spots in the 300-meter hurdles. Kayden Humphrey was third (44.26) and Carlo Jones finished fourth (44.66). 

Mychael Pulley also had a top three finish as the freshman earned a bronze medal in the High Jump with a leap of 5-feet, 10-inches. 

Junior Tyson Cavinder took third place in the Boys’ 3,200-meter Run with a time of 10:40.99. 

Willie Ennels earned a fifth-place finish in the Long Jump with a leap of 20-feet, 1.5 inches. 

The Tigers’ 4×400-meter relay team of Jeffers, Jones, Davis, Savior Davis, and James Bradley Jr., and the 4×800-meter relay team of Cavinder, Davis, Jeffers, and Jones was fifth in 3:50.37 and 8.48.61, respectively. 

Henderson County won the 23-team meet with 102.5 points. Hopkinsville had 63. 

In the girls’ meet, McCracken County took first place with 163.5 points. Hopkinsville was fifth with 40.5 points. 

Leaunna Wilkerson had the top finish for the Lady Tigers as she took second place in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.26 seconds. 

Alanni Quarles continued her impressive spring by taking third in the 400-meter Dash in a time of 1:03.58. She edged teammate Grace Cansler, who was fifth in 1:04.08. 

Lauren Mayes also earned a bronze medal in the 3,200-meter Run as the senior broke the tape in 12:42.60. 

Senior Alexis Herrera-Lovato took fourth place in the 800-meter Run with a time of 2:32.70. 

The Lady Tigers’ 4×200-meter Relay team of Cansler, Quarles, Herrera-Lovato, and Wilkerson had an impressive fourth-place finish in 1:52.42. 

Saturday’s meet was a tune-up for the Hoptown teams as the Class 2-A, Region 1 Meet is scheduled for May 12 at Calloway County High School.
