In 1976, the Pennyroyal Area Museum opened in the old post office building in downtown Hopkinsville, and to spotlight its 50th anniversary, the Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County has brought back its Quilt Show.
The Quilt Show was a museum staple, but Museums Director Alissa Keller says it has not been hosted in a while, following a major renovation project and the COVID-19 pandemic. She says she wanted to bring back the show to celebrate the museum’s anniversary.
Around 18 quilts are on display, and Keller says the oldest quilt was made in the 1850s, and the most recent quilt was made in 1986 by the Hopkinsville Downtown Business Association.
The Quilt Show will be on display through May 30, and Keller says they have two events planned focused on the exhibit. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 16, Keller is inviting folks to the Quilt Show and Tell, where they can display quilts they have made.
Then, on June 2 at 2 p.m., Keller says folks are invited to the museum for a Quilt Putting Away Program.
