Large scale road project to begin next month at Lafayette Road and Lovers Lane intersection

A multi-year road construction project is about to begin on Lafayette Road in Christian County, set to start in early August, helmed by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

Answering a question from WHOP News, a news release from the transportation cabinet details that the project includes improving both grading and elevation of Lafayette Road at the intersection of Lovers Lane, along with adding turning lanes at that intersection. The hope is to improve sight lines and improve overall safety of motorists traveling in that area.

Crews will begin installing detour and traffic control signage the week of August 3, 2026, with a full road closure expected to begin at the intersection on August 10. The closure for this phase of the project is expected to last through the end of October, weather permitting, as all the utilities that run under the roadway will need to be moved.

Then the second phase of the project is expected to begin in March of 2027, with officials saying that stretch of road will be closed through at least September of 2027 while the new roadway is constructed.
