Former Tiger Powell, fan favorite Scheidt returning to Hoppers in 2026

Former Hopkinsville High School baseball star Gavin Powell is among the latest players announced as playing for the Hoptown Hoppers this summer. 

Powell, a 2025 graduate of HHS and a member of the last Tigers’ baseball team, played for Hoptown last summer. He hit .162 with six RBI in 15 games. He also pitched 32 2/3 innings with a 2-3 record and 18 strikeouts and nine walks and a 3.00 ERA. 

Powell, an infielder, played his freshman season at Rend Lake College where he hit .291 with three home runs and 28 RBI.  

Also returning in 2026 is fan favorite Konnor Scheidt, a first baseman with Indiana University Southeast. 

Last season with the Hoppers, Scheidt hit .198 with four home runs and 20 RBI with the Hoppers. He also pitched three innings and had an ERA of 11.67. 

This spring for the Grenadiers, Scheidt hit .250 with three home runs and 20 RBI. 

Meet the Hoppers is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. May 27 at Camo Caravan and the season opener is set for May 29 against Madisonville at Hopkinsville High School’s Tiger Field.
