Former Christian County High School softball player Avery Adcock has been traveling all over the country the last two weeks hoping to find her next school.
As she was about to board a plane home from Florida Monday morning, the 5-foot-6 shortstop said in a phone interview that she has verbally committed to Troy University in Troy, Ala.Â
Adcock entered the transfer portal in May, leaving the University of Missouri after one season.
The Cerulean native played 13 games for the Tigers, appearing mostly as a pinch runner. She had three at-bats all season, including games at McNeese, Auburn, and South Carolina. Adcock scored three runs and drew one walk.
Adcock said she chose Troy over Evansville, Southern Illinois, North Alabama, and Florida Atlantic, where she had visited over the weekend.
At Christian County, Adcock was a four-year letter winner and earned All-District and All Region three times.
During her career at CCHS, Adcock hit .482 with 39 home runs with 156 RBIs and 127 stolen bases. Her senior year she hit .568 with 13 homers and 27 RBIs. She also stole 36 bases in 36 attempts while earning Region 2 Player of the Year and Class 3-A, First Team All-State.Â
Troy is a member of the Sun Belt Conference. This season, the Trojans finished 32-22 overall and 10-14 in conference play.
