As summer approaches, the Hopkinsville-Christian County Boys and Girls Club has a lot on its itinerary, including the start of the Tween Center’s construction and the launch of a new literacy program.
At August’s Great Future’s Luncheon, Boys and Girls Club Executive Director Terrence Davis announced their plans to construct a Tween Center for younger middle school-age kids who are too young for the Teen Center. During Wednesday’s Early Bird Show, Davis shared that the center will be designated space for sixth and seventh graders, and will include robotics and STEM activities.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the Tween Center will be hosted on Thursday at 3 p.m., and Davis says they plan to have a ribbon-cutting for the center in October.
Boys and Girls Club Board Member Shannon Slate spotlighted the launch of the club’s new literacy programs for some of their youngest members. Slate says the program will focus on reading fluency and teaching phonics.
Then, for their members in elementary school, Davis says they are partnering with the Christian County Public School System to host a four-week home economics program where members can learn how to sew, cook, do laundry and much more.
To support some of these programs, the pair put out that call for volunteers. Those interested in volunteering can contact Davis at tdavisbgchcc@gmail.com.
