The Henderson Flash ran their winning streak to 10 games Sunday night and overtook Hoptown for first place in the Ohio Valley League standings with a 12-9 victory over the Hoppers at Tigers Field.
The Flash scored six runs in the top of the eighth inning and then held off a ninth-inning rally by Hoptown to claim the victory and move into first place with a 14-5 record. Hoptown, which had ninth-inning rallies to beat Paducah Friday night and Full Count on Saturday, slipped to 13-5.
The Hoppers outhit the Flash 12-7 but committed four errors in the game.
Dom Hartman and Brennen Gibson both collected three hits for Hoptown. Brennan Mealer and Ryan McCartan also had home runs for the Hoppers.
Former Christian County High School star Gage Montes started on the hill for the Hoppers and went five strong innings, allowing only two hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
Reed Hayes suffered the pitching loss with one inning of relief.
Hoptown is back in action tonight at third-place Paducah at 6:30 p.m.Â
The next Hoppers’ home game is scheduled for Wednesday againt Fulton at 6:30 p.m. Airtime is 6:15 p.m. on 95.3 The Farm and 953thefarm.com.
