Hopkinsville High School will field a young girls’ basketball team in its final year of existence.
A strong sophomore class and several key freshmen guards look to carry the load for Hoptown in 2025-26.
The Lady Tigers lost their top three scorers from a year ago when they went 10-13. Guards Alicia Davis and LaShanti Wilson along with forward Lee Lee Love averaged nearly 36 points per game last season.
Hoptown Head Coach Keith Leslie said he hopes the younger players are ready when the season starts.
The guard spot is where graduation hit the Lady Tigers’ hardest. Sophomores Serenity Ewing and Laelah Watkins along with freshman Emery Wilson will be counted on most at that position.
Watkins averaged 3.4 points last season and Ewing averaged 1.7 points and 3.1 rebounds. Sophomore post player Dominique Allensworth is the top returning post player at 4.1 points and 3.8 rebounds.
Freshman Faniya Redd and junior Aubriana Johnson also are expected to play a lot of minutes this season for Hoptown.
Leslie added that senior Amani Pizana will be counted on to play several different spots and help the Lady Tigers reach their goal of getting to the region tournament.
Leslie said the team understands it is the last to wear the Hoptown Lady Tigers’ jersey before consolidation next winter with Christian County High School. They want to send the program out in a memorable way.
Hopkinsville opens its final season Dec. 1 at Warren Central. The Lady Tigers’ first home game is Dec. 6 against Webster County.
