With summer-like temps in store, TVA gives some energy savings tips

It seems like summer is trying to make an early push this year, and as temperatures creep up towards the 90’s this week, the Tennessee Valley Authority is offering some tips on how to keep cool while saving on your energy costs.

TVA Energy Savings Expert Ashley England spoke with WHOP recently and says there are several smart cooling choices in you can make to help out this summer, including getting your HVAC systems serviced, keeping those filters clean, adjusting your ceiling fans, and upping the thermostat by a couple of degrees.

A big tip is to not use those big appliances—such as the dishwasher—during the heat of the day. Instead, England says, run them at night before heading to bed.

The TVA is offering $50 rebates for folks who get an HVAC check up through a TVA quality contractor, with England saying you can find a certified contractor through energyright.com.

A good idea is also to close up those curtains during the heat of the day to keep out the sun, and for more tips and tricks, visit the TVA’s website.
