Winter is certainly make a grand entrance into 2025 , with parts of the area under a Winter Weather Advisory and places to our north under an Ice Storm Warning.
Counties in the Ice Storm Warning include Hopkins, Muhlenberg and Livingston counties in western Kentucky, along with numerous counties to the north. The further north you are, the more you can expect in the way of ice accumulations and other wintry mix. The National Weather Service in Paducah is urging folks to prepare now, as they are expecting scattered to widespread power outages in those areas, with ice accumulations there possibly reaching an inch, which would cause dangerous traveling conditions.
Further south, Christian, Todd, Trigg and other western Kentucky counties near the Tennessee line are in a Winter Weather Advisory, with meteorologists currently expecting a trace to one inch of sleet and snow accumulations, which could lead to travel impacts and isolated power outages, especially as the wind is expected to be quite gusty. Ice accumulations of up to a quarter of an inch are possible.
All of this is expected to begin late Saturday night, continue through the day Sunday, and then a burst of snow could finish it off Monday morning and into mid-day Monday.
After that, the temperatures are expected to be dangerously frigid, with highs across the area not expected to get out of the teens, and wind chills could knock that down into the single digits.
