Western Kentucky to possibly receive freezing rain

Monday morning came with some icy temperatures, and later tonight, the National Weather Service in Paducah is expecting for parts of Western Kentucky to possibly receive sleet and freezing rain.

The weather service issued a winter weather advisory for multiple counties including, Christian, Todd and Trigg counties from 6 p.m. Monday evening to 9 a.m. Tuesday morning. Lead Forecaster Justin Gibbs says he is concerned about the possibility of a freezing drizzle, because it has the potential to make the roadway quite slick.

Gibbs says the advisory was issued out an abundance of caution and he expects that there will be some places within the advisory zone that will not be heavily impacted by the weather. Southwestern Kentucky is expected to receive less than one inch of precipitation during the advisory which could result in a light ice glaze on roads.

By noon on Tuesday, Gibbs says temperatures are set to be above freezing. Looking toward the rest of the week, temperatures are set to hovering around freezing with lows being in the 20s and highs being in the 40s. Gibbs says they are expecting more precipitation on Sunday but that could change.
