Viall removes interim tag as Fiscal Court approves her hire as Animal Shelter Director

Christian County Fiscal Court made it official—Sherry Viall will get to remove her interim tag, as they approved her to be the director of the Christian County Regional Animal Shelter at Tuesday’s meeting.

This move comes after the resignation of former Director Melissa Goff, and Christian County Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam told magistrates Tuesday that they interviewed three people for the job, and it was his recommendation that Viall was the best person for the role.

Magistrates approved that recommendation unanimously. Viall has been the interim director for nearly two months now, since the resignation of Goff in early February.

Viall also delivered her first monthly report at the meeting, highlighting that during the month of February the shelter took in 249 animals and adopted out, with 156 animals outgoing.

Magistrates also approved the hiring of LeighAnne Gentry to a part-time position at the animal shelter, along with several positions at the Christian County Jail.

During public comments, Sandra Price spoke on her concerns about overpopulation at the jail, particularly concerning detainees being held for the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, asking for information on that program and how the community can help ease the burden.

Judge Gilliam gave an update on his recent trip to Washington D.C. to advocate for local projects, including a water-sewer system upgrade on Fort Campbell, infrastructure projects on I-24 and more.
