United Way of the Pennyrile dives into new fundraising campaign with new chairs, theme

The United Way of the Pennyrile is now in the thick of things, as their annual fundraising campaign is officially underway, and dynamic duo Amy and Derrick Watson are putting out the call for support.

The Watsons are serving as co-chairs for this year’s campaign, and they’ve already hit the ground running just a week into the campaign. Both are somewhat recently retired from their long-running careers, which means they’re able to devote their nearly full attention to the cause, which is raising funds to support the United Way’s 15 partner agencies.

Amy Watson played a big role in News at News Channel 5 for many years, and that helped lead the inspiration for this year’s theme, which is “You Are the Story”. She says if everyone works together, they can help make the story of the United Way a good one.

Derrick Watson and Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority have been long, staunch supporters of the United Way, and he says now he gets to help in a new way.  He says getting a chance to spend time with these agencies has really driven home just how big an impact they have in this community.

For example, Amy Watson says the PACS-Home Delivered Meals Program in Cadiz delivers around 100 meals a day to those in need and they play such a vital role to their community.

Executive Director Melanie Noffsinger says you can even donate to an agency that speaks directly to your heart.

While the campaign is underway now, the annual kick off event won’t be held until September 3, where officials will announce their pacesetter totals and get the biggest part of the fundraising effort cycling.
