This week’s Jennie-Stuart Orthopedic – Michael Venable State Farm Player of the Week is Quinton (Que) Quarles.
Que is a senior at University Heights Academy and is also a member of the Blazer’s basketball team.
In 19 games so far this season he has averaged 15 points per game to help lead his team to a 15-4 record.
For Que, basketball has been a part of his life for as long as he could remember.
As far as to why he decided to stay playing he explained that it was the consistency of the game in his life and the desire to get better.
At 5’8″ Quarles often finds himself being the shortest player on the court, but with his limited height, Quarles possesses a tremendous amount of athleticism. So much athleticism that he can be seen throwing down alley-oop dunks in warmups before games.
Que talked about his athleticism and where that comes from.
Along with basketball, Que was also known as one of the best goalies in the 2nd Region this past season. When it comes to playing goalie, he says there are similarities with basketball, specifically on defense.
When asked what his greatest skill on the basketball court was, Quarles had this to say.
If you’ve seen any UHA games this year you would know that another one of Que’s special skills is his pull-up midrange jumper. He took some time to explain how and why he uses the shot which has become a bit of a lost gem in high school basketball.
In this season Quarles and the rest of his team have managed to beat every team in the district to lock the one-seed in the district tournament taking place in a few weeks.
And although that is something to be proud of Que made it clear the regular season wins are nowhere near as coveted as victories in the postseason.
Lastly, Que answered the question: How do you want to be remembered as a student and a multi-sport athlete at UHA?
Head coach UHA basketball Terry Hayes also spoke with WHOP and gave some of his thoughts on Que Quarles and the season he is having.
