This week’s Jennie Stuart Orthopedic – Michael Venable State Farm Player of the Week is Gavin Grubbs.
Gavin is a senior at University Heights Academy and a member of the Blazer basketball team.
In his senior season Gavin is leading his team in scoring averaging 15.6 points per game which has helped the team hold a 22-6 record.
When it comes to the beginning of Gavin’s basketball journey, he says it began at a young age but took a more serious turn in middle school.
Grubbs credits the drive to get better as one of the reasons he’s continued to play and work on his craft.
As far as his work in the offseason, Grubbs worked on a lot of things but his main emphasis was adding some consistency to his jump shot.
One of Grubb’s most patented moves on the court has been his floater. And despite being right-handed, more often than not, you see Grubbs opt to go southpaw when he takes his shot in the paint.
Grubbs explained how using his left hand came about.
In the regular season, UHA had the best record among the 4 schools in Hopkinsville and one of the better seasons in the 2nd Region.
Grubbs gave his thoughts on the season so far.
When asked if he had any individual or team goals set before this season, Gavin quickly said this.
With a win against HCA in the 8th district semifinal game on Wednesday, Gavin and his team have accomplished his goal of making it to the championship game.
As far a what winning the district championship would mean to him, this is what he had to say.
Head coach of the Blazers, Terry Hayes also gave his thoughts on Grubbs’ season.
Lastly, while he does still have games left to play wearing green and gold, Gavin explained how he wants to be remembered as a Blazer.
