University Heights Academy ended a six-match losing skid by upsetting Heritage Christian Academy 3-2 on Thursday night in a high school volleyball match in Blazer Gym.
After HCA won the first set 25-16, UHA bounced back to win the next two 25-15, 25-23.
Eighth grader Kaydence Knight entered to start the fourth set and picked up two aces and helped the Lady Warriors take a 4-0 lead and set the tone for the HCA to cruise to a 25-21 win in the fourth set.
However, the Lady Blazers showed some grit and held off a veteran HCA squad to win the fifth set 15-10 and take the match.
Niyona Brown had nine kills and six blocks and Megan Long had seven kills and five digs for UHA. Niyati Patel finished with 5 kills and 19 digs and Ava Crawford had five kills and 17 digs.
Gretchan Durham stuffed the stat box with two blocks, 11 digs, and 32 assists. Cassidy Keller finished with 23 digs.
For HCA, Hadlee Hayes had 18 kills and 17 digs and Bralee Fowler finished with 17 kills, four aces, and 36 digs.
Makenzie McCarty had 40 assists and Allie Craft ended the night with 30 digs.
HCA falls to 13-16 on the season and 4-4 against District 8 opponents. UHA is now 10-16 overall and 3-5 against district foes.
The Lady Warriors are scheduled to play Tuesday at McLean County while the Lady Blazers are scheduled to play host to Crittenden County on Oct. 13.
