The Tennessee Valley Authority is still doing what they can to mitigate potential flooding issues ahead of a forecast for significant rainfall in the region this week.
The entirety of western Kentucky and pretty much this half of the country is under a Flood Watch through Sunday morning, with an additional 10 inches of rain possible on top of what has already fallen. In response, the TVA is currently spilling nearly 1 million gallons of water per second at Kentucky Dam.Â
TVA Spokesperson Adam May says they are lowering Kentucky Lake to prepare for the amount of water they may need to hold, and it will hopefully mitigate flooding downstream.
He says the TVA will stay in close contact with the Army Corps of Engineers and work together to make decisions that could help reduce flooding on the lower Ohio River during this heavy rain event.
