The Tennessee Valley Authority is the recipient of a United States Department of Energy grant that will allow them to move forward with their plans for the Cumberland Fossil Plant in Stewart County, Tennessee.
The TVA Coal Revitalization Initiative is set to be a comprehensive coal revitalization plan at the Cumberland Fossil Plant, aiming to restore reliability, enhance efficiency and extend the operational life of the coal-fired assets to meet regional demand for energy.
And it was a hefty amount towards their goals, with the Department of Energy granting $46.2 million. With $69.4 million of non-Department of Energy money, the total cost of the project will likely be around $115.7 million.
TVA officials say, “TVA appreciates the Administration’s continued commitment to strengthening America’s energy infrastructure. Federal support of coal facilities helps ensure that utilities like TVA can maintain the reliable, around‑the‑clock power our region depends on. This aligns with TVA’s ongoing efforts to maintain system reliability and affordability as power demand grows.”
