The Tennessee Valley Authority is moving forward with a proposed energy project in Todd and Logan Counties and have announced their preferred locations for a new switching station and transmission lines.
According to a news release, the new Stokes Switching Station is set to be located on the westside of Old Trenton Road, just north of Hadden Road. That power line will begin at that switching station and then extend east to the existing Cave Springs Switching Station, a length of about 20 miles.
Those locations are expected to have the least impact on the area—that determination was based on public input from an in-person open house that was held in Elkton in December, along with other factors.
Now, the TVA will meet with property owners along the proposed right-of-way to begin obtaining easements for construction, operation and maintenance of this project. Property owners will still own that property and would be compensated for the easements at fair market values.
The timeline is for surveys to begin in the fall of this year and easement acquisition to start in the summer of 2026.
This project is a part of the TVA’s ongoing plan to prepare for growth in the region and increase power reliability. TVA believes that America’s competitive advantage hinges on affordable, reliable and resilient electricity, and this prosperity requires the utility to build power infrastructure.
