The Tennessee Valley Authority and local electric municipalities are asking for the public’s help, calling for a voluntary reduction in energy usage during the ongoing heatwave.
As of Tuesday morning, the TVA is reporting that the bulk of the electric systems is stable and secure, and you can help keep it that way by upping the temperature on the thermostat by just a couple of degrees and closing those blinds and curtains during the heat of the day.
TVA Energy Savings Expert Ashley England says another good way to save on energy—and your bill—is by not running those big electronic appliances such as the washer and dryer during the heat of the day.
Shut off those electronic devices when you’re not using them, like computers and gaming consoles, as they could be using more energy than you realize just sitting on.
The TVA says they have suspended all non-essential maintenance to ensure the reliability and availability of generating assets. They also recommending getting that HVAC systems serviced, as air conditioning makes up roughly 50 percent of a person’s power bill.
