Trial date for infant murder suspects to possibly change

Infant murder suspects, Alexander and Dakota Heck appeared in Christian Circuit Court on Wednesday where their attorneys discussed possibly moving the pair’s trial date.

The pair is charged in connection to the murder of an infant in their home in March 2022. Alexander Heck is charged with murder and Dakota Heck is charged with complicity to murder. The victim was the child of a mother who was reportedly staying in the Hecks’ home at the time.

Alexander Heck is represented by attorney Michael Thompson and Dakota Heck is represented by attorney Stephanie Mize. Thompson and Mize discussed possibly moving the May 12 trial date because they both have personal obligations prior to the trial and their expert witnesses may not be available.

Mize says reports from a forensic examination expert and a medical examiner may not be complete by the time of the trial.

Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Mark Gilbert says he is hesitant to move the trial date, because the victim’s family wants the case to go to trial, but he also wants all parties involved to be prepared.

In order to accommodate Thompson and Mize, Circuit Judge Andrew Self agreed to move the trial start date to May 13.

If by then the witness reports are still not ready, they will discuss moving the trial date.
