The Hopkinsville Tigers struck early and then held off Christian County 4-2 Thursday night in a District 8 soccer match at the Stadium of Champions.
Erick Hernandez found the back of the net in the opening 15 minutes and Anthony Evangelista added a second goal for a 2-0 lead in the 24th minute.
The Colonels answered less than a minute later to cut the lead to 2-1 on a goal by Erwin Macario on an assist from Leland Creamer. The goal ignited a brief scrum near the Tigers’ goal but tempers were soon cooled.
Noah Davis tied the game in the 28th minute on an assist from Christian Lopez.
Alex Ramirez and Gavin Harton added goals for the Tigers, who won their second straight game and improved to 5-11 overall and 2-0 in district play.
Kyler Delvecchio had two assists and Mikel Hernandez added an assist. Landon Beaulieu had seven saves in goal to pick up the win.
The Tigers will play at University Heights Academy on Tuesday night in a match that will decide the top seed in next month’s district tournament.
Christian County dropped its second straight match and fell to 8-5 overall and 2-2 in district play.
