First year Hopkinsville High School Football Coach Dustin Lopez was among several area coaches who discussed their upcoming seasons Saturday at the Planters Bank-Jennie Stuart Sportsplex.
Lopez, a former Tiger standout who also served as Defensive Coordinator for the last few seasons at HHS, said he likes how his team has been preparing for the upcoming season.
The Tigers, who are coming off a 1-9 season, return several key offensive players from last year’s squad including running back/wide receiver Treston Kay and quarterback Aiden King. Hoptown also returns leading tackler Amoni Johnson.
Kay said missing the playoffs has given the Tigers extra motivation going into the 2024 season.
Others present for the Tigers on Saturday included running back Artavius Moses, wide receiver/defensive back James Bradley Jr. and offensive lineman Quavie Catlett.
Hoptown opens the season Aug. 23 at Greenwood in Bowling Green.
Christian County coaches and players were not at the media day on Saturday. The Colonels, who open the season Aug. 23 at Warren East, were playing in a 7-on-7 passing tournament Saturday in Illinois.
The Colonels went 2-9 last year and lost in the first round of the Class 6-A playoffs.
