The Hopkinsville Tigers football team will open up its 2024 season tonight with its first scrimmage against Russellville at 6 p.m. at the Stadium of Champions.
The Tigers are coached by Dustin Lopez, a former player and defensive coordinator, who is in his first season as head coach.
The team is coming off a 1-9 finish a year ago, which included missing the playoffs.
Lopez said despite how last season ended, he is excited to get back on the field and see how much his team has improved.
Lopez said he has made a few defensive changes during the preseason camp and he wants to see if the tweaks will work.
Offensively, Lopez said he likes his starting backfield, but he wants to see more from his wide receivers and backups.
Tonight’s scrimmage is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. at the Stadium of Champions. Before the game, fans will have a chance to Meet the Tigers at 5 p.m.
Hopkinsville will open the season August 23 at Greenwood.
