Tigers, Colonels clash tonight for District 8 championship

The Boys’ District 8 Basketball Tournament championship is on the line tonight as the Christian County Colonels and Hopkinsville Tigers renew their rivalry for the third time this season.

The two teams have split their meetings this year with the Colonels winning at Tiger Gym 73-69 on Jan. 9 and then two weeks later the Tigers defeated the Colonels 52-41 in Lyle Dunbar Gym.

Tonight’s game is set to tip off at 6 p.m. in Tiger Gym.

Hopkinsville is the top seed and enters with a 15-14 record after beating Heritage Christian Academy 91-41 in the semifinals on Tuesday night.

Tigers coach Anthony Babb said he expects a competitive game tonight.

The Tigers enter the game on a four-game winning streak and have won eight of their last nine games.

Meanwhile, the Colonels enter the game 7-22 after having played one of the toughest schedules in Kentucky.

Behind Na’Darien Rowe’s 33 points on Tuesday night, the Colonels shocked second seed University Heights Academy 69-62 to advance to tonight’s final.

Colonels’ coach Dior Curtis said he expects tonight’s game to be intense.

The Colonels have won two of their last three games and are seeking their second District 8 championship in three seasons.

Tipoff tonight is set for 6 p.m. with airtime for the F&M Bank Pregame show at 5:45 p.m. on both Newsradio 99.3 FM and 1230 AM and 95.3 The Farm.
