The Hopkinsville Tigers opened season their high school football season on the road Friday night at Greenwood losing to the Gators 34 to 32.
Greenwood scored first with 7:54 to go in the first quarter on a 1-yard run by Romello Meade. The two point try was no good.
After a Jayon Bass interception at the Tigers 4-yard line Hoptown would go a 16 play 96-yard drive for their first score of the night. Aiden King would find Treston Kay in the end zone from 10 yards out for the score. The two point try was good and Hopkinsville lad 8 to 6 with 3:32 to go in the 2nd quarter.
The Tigers would get a late first half score as Aiden King would connect with Jaylen Ray for a 22-yard touchdown pass with 6 seconds to play in the half. The two point try was no good.
The Gators would score first in the 2nd half of play at the 7:22 mark to pull within 2 at 14 to 12.
The Tigers would extend their lead on a 4-yard run by Artavis Moses to make it 20-12 with 5:13 to go in the 3rd quarter.
Greenwood would tie the game at 20 after a 12-yard run by Cayden Schwarzkopf. The two point try was good.
Greenwood would take the lead for good at the 8:55 mark to go in the game on another Schwarzkopf touchdown run making 27 to 20
The Tigers would get within one on a 10-yard run by Moses making it 27 to 26.
With 4:24 to go in the game Schwarzkopf scored on a 55-yard run up the middle to make it 34 to 26 after the PAT.
The Tigers final score of the night would come at the 3:06 mark on an 18 yard pass play from King to Kay. The two point try was no good and Greenwood held on the win 34 to 32.
