Now that warm weather has returned, Jeffers Bend Environmental Center is inviting people back outside for fun, starting with Take Kids Fishing Day on Saturday.
Charles Turner from the Jeffers Bend Steering Committee recently appeared on WHOP to share all the details. Take Kids Fishing Day started in 1999 and the first event had around 200 participants and now up to 1,000 folks come out to do some fishing.
In 2012, Turner says they had their largest Take Kids Fishing Day with around 1,650 showing up at Jeffers Bend.
Along with some fishing, Turner says they will have water activities for the kiddos, including two water slides, a water obstacle course and a water line fixing station.
Kiddos can fish along Little River and Jeffers Bend Lake and could possibly be the lucky fisher to catch Big Jeff. Each year ahead of the big day, Turner says they put a large catfish in the lake.
Take Kids Fishing Day takes over Jeffers Bend from 9 a.m. to noon. For those who pre-register by Tuesday, it costs $2 for each person participating and then on Saturday it will cost $3 for each person.
