Support local agencies, programs this Giving Tuesday

After doing plenty of shopping on Black Friday and Shop Small Saturday as the holiday shopping season gets into full swing, people are reminded that this is the season of giving as well.

Giving Tuesday takes place this week, where people are encouraged to participate in a global generosity movement by donating to a cause important to them—and if you’re looking for one, there’s plenty of great agencies and programs accepting donations, including the United Way of the Pennyrile and the Kiwanis Warm the Children initiative.

The United Way provides funding for 19 partner agencies across Christian, Todd, Trigg and Caldwell Counties, and they’re looking to raise over $700,000 this year to make that funding a reality. Co-Chair Cody Noffsinger says they’re going to need the help of the whole community to make it happen—and the community has always come through.

Co-Chair Chris Jung says this fundraising effort is vitally important, to provide that much needed funding for agencies that work to better communities every day.

Warm the Children is focused on providing kids most in need with warm clothing during winter months, and it was started with the local Kiwanis Club years ago by the late Willie Renshaw. Organizer Nikki Chambers says they hope to clothe over 250 children and they’re off to a good start with fundraising efforts.

She says you can donate by going online to the Kiwanis Club of Hopkinsville website, mailing in your donation—or you can get a hold of her directly.

There are plenty of other causes donate to this Giving Tuesday, from the Salvation Army, to the Forgotten Angels program, from local pet adoption and rescue agencies, and much, much more.
