As the school year winds down, Christian County Public Schools Superintendent Chris Bentzel appeared on WHOP to share their plans to celebrate their teachers and graduating seniors.
On Wednesday, Bentzel says the school system is hosting its Employee Recognition Celebration at the Silo Event Center. Multiple awards are set to be given out including awards for teacher and staff member of the year. Then on Thursday, they will be celebrating their employees who are set to retire.
Graduation ceremonies for Christian County and Hopkinsville High Schools are a little over a month away on May 23 at the Stadium of Champions. The Christian County High ceremony will be at 5 p.m. and the Hopkinsville High ceremony will follow at 8:30 p.m.
Then following the ceremonies, Bentzel says seniors will be celebrating at Project Graduation. Bentzel says Project Graduation stopped in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic and this year marks the comeback of the celebration.
Following historic rainfall during the first week of April areas in southern parts of the county continue to be impacted by the flooding. The flooding has resulted in bus routes being canceled or rerouted for South Christian Elementary School, Pembroke Elementary School, Hopkinsville Middle School and Hopkinsville High School.
Since some students aren’t able to attend school due to roads being impacted by high water, Bentzel says their absences and missing assignments are being excused and they are working to further accommodate them so that they can continue learning.
As of Tuesday, six bus routes are not running due to high water.
