University Heights Academy’s baseball team is preparing for its first trip to the KHSAA State Baseball Tournament Thursday afternoon at Legends Field in Lexington.
A ceremony is scheduled for 5 p.m. today at Chick-fil-A for fans to send off the team to the tournament.
The seventh-ranked Blazers are 29-8 after defeating Christian County 12-1 in five innings to win the Region 2 championship last Thursday night. UHA will meet Region 14 winner Wolfe County in the first round at 4 p.m. this Thursday.
The Wolves are 24-10 and defeated Hazard 4-2 to win the Region 14 title last Friday night. It is the second straight year that Wolfe County has reached the state tournament. Last year, the Wolves were defeated 2-1 by Boyd County in the quarterfinal round.
