Sheriff’s office invites residents to learn about their duties at Citizens’ Academy

Residents interested in learning about the law enforcement duties of deputies with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office, can enroll in the Citizens’ Academy.

The academy is a free 12-hour program that will include classroom session and hands-on demonstrations focusing on traffic stops, investigation techniques, court proceedings, DUI exercises and much more.

By hosting the academy, Sheriff Tyler DeArmond says it’s their goal to connect with the community they serve to share how they keep folks safe.

The academy runs from May 13 to May 29, attendees meet each Tuesday and Thursday and classes are from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. In order to graduate from the academy, participants must attend all sessions.

The academy is limited to 20 participants who must be 18 years or older and must pass a background check. Those interested can pick up an application at the sheriff’s office at 701 West 7th Street and turn it back in to the office before the deadline on May 1.
