Severe weather possible Memorial Day Weekend

The area will get a break from stormy weather some on Saturday, but then Sunday brings with it another big chance for severe weather.

All of western Kentucky, including Christian, Todd and Trigg Counties, are currently under an Enhanced Risk for severe weather, and areas to our north could be subject to significant severe weather. Lead Forecaster Keith Cooley with the National Weather Service in Paducah says all the ingredients are there for severe storms to fire off in the afternoon Sunday.

All hazards will be possible with any storms that develop, including damaging winds, large hail and tornadoes, some of which could be strong.

The biggest chance for severe weather will be from 6 p.m. Sunday afternoon and into the overnight hours.

This weather system is still a few days out so things could certainly change between now and then, so stay tuned to the WHOP Family of Stations for any watches or warnings that may develop.
