Settlement reached with LG&E and Kentucky Utilities about rate adjustments

A proposed agreement has been reached regarding Louisville Gas and Electric and Kentucky Utilities’ rate increases.

According to the Kentucky Attorney General’s Office, as part of the settlement agreement, LG&E and have KU agreed to lock in base rates until at least August 2028, and Kentucky customers will see increases of less than $10 on their monthly gas and electric bills.

LG&E and KU serves more than 975,000 electric customers in 94 counties—including in northern Christian County for Kentucky Utilities—and is the largest electric utility in the Commonwealth.

On May 30, LG&E and KU filed applications for a general adjustment of its base rates using a forecasted test year and included other related accounting requests and tariff changes. At the time, KU was asking for an 11.5 percent increase to their rates, which would mean a monthly increase of $18.14 for KU customers using 1,085 kilowatt hours.

If the settlement is approved by Kentucky Public Service Commission, then the average KU customer would see an increase of $9 on their monthly electric bill. G&E residential electric customers would see an increase of $5.04 and residential gas customers would see an increase of $8.10 in their total monthly bill.
