Semi-truck wreck results in injuries, highway blockage

A single-vehicle wreck on Interstate 24 in Christian County involving a semi-truck resulted in injuries and the westbound lanes being closed Sunday evening.

According to a report from the Christian County Sheriff’s Office, a semi-truck operated by John Cummings of Augusta, Georgia overturned near the 85-mile marker of the interstate which blocked the westbound traffic lanes.

Following the wreck Cummings was reportedly trapped in the semi-truck’s cabin and was seizing. Cummings and a passenger, Gary Brown of Stapleton, Georgia were removed from the vehicle. Brown told law enforcement that he did not see anything that may have caused the wreck because he was seated in the rear cabin.

A witness reportedly told law enforcement that the semi-truck entered onto the interstate near the 86-mile marker. Once on the interstate, the semi-truck allegedly moved into the inner lane and hit the center median cable barrier which caused it to roll over. No other vehicle is animal was reported to have caused the wreck and it is believed that Cummings suffered from a medical episode causing the wreck.

Both Cummings and Brown were transported to Tennova Healthcare for their injuries.
