Two individuals are in custody in relation to the May 27 shooting death of 19-year-old Jordan Jones and the investigation continues.
A second suspect was taken into custody Thursday morning, with no immediate details on that suspect available. Another suspect was arrested on May 29, and during a Chats with the Chief on Wednesday, Police Chief Jason Newby was able to clarify that the first suspect arrested was a juvenile. That means their name will not be released until such time they went before court for prosecution.
He says these arrests are not the end of the investigation, as they work to bring justice to Jones and his family.
Chief Newby also put out a plea to parents, urging them to monitor their children’s social media pages and to know their whereabouts at all times, as the department sees examples of what he calls concerning behavior all too often.
He says he intends to speak with local prosecutors and judicial leaders about the possibility of parents facing charges in the event their child commits a crime in the future in Kentucky, if they were complicit through inaction.
The shooting that resulted in Jones’ death happened on May 27 in the 1200 block of Walnut Street, where he suffered a single gunshot wound to the chest. He was rushed to Jennie Stuart Medical Center with CPR in progress, but would succumb to his injuries.
With the arrest of the second suspect, HPD believes that all parties involved in the fatal shooting are currently in custody.
