School system opens teacher supply corner

The Christian County Public School System and the CCPS Education Foundation cut the ribbon on the Teacher Corner on Tuesday.

The corner is located in a building behind Martin Luther King Jr. Early Learning Center and was created to store free classroom supplies for teachers.

The Teacher Corner became a reality thanks to fundraising from the foundation, but the idea came for it came from Teacher Recruiter, Beverly Fort and Communications Director, Johnna Brown.

Foundation Executive Director, Angie Major says Fort and Brown presented the idea to the foundation and they were immediately on board. Major says they started fundraising and hosted a couple of stuff the bus supply donations at the industrial parks.

The corner is set to be open to teachers during the first two weeks of school and will reopen in January at the start of the semester. Foundation Treasurer, Tracy Pelletier says each teacher starts the year with 20 points, and can use them to purchase items they need for their class.

As the corner grows, Pelletier says they hope to increase the amount of points each teacher gets and the corner’s open periods. If teachers join CCPS in the middle of the school year they will be able to come to the corner to gather supplies for their classes.

Natalie Duvall is a seventh-grade social studies teacher who just joined CCPS and says the corner is very helpful because it makes supplies easily accessible while teachers are busy adjusting to their new classes and students.

Along with getting classroom items, teachers can also enter to win door prizes which include larger classroom supplies such as desk chairs. Those interested in donating to the Teacher Corner can reach out to Major at ccpseducationfoundation@gmail.com.
