The Hopkinsville Tigers and Christian County Colonels went back-and-forth for four quarters before the Colonels were able to upset the Tigers 73-69 in a District 8 basketball game at Tiger Gym.
Hoptown led 27-18 after one quarter, but Christian County rallied to take a 37-35 halftime lead. Na’Darien Rowe had 22 points in the first half to lead the Colonels.
The Tigers came back to take a 55-52 lead after three quarters.
The Colonels were able to come back and take the lead again in the fourth quarter. Rahsean Stevenson hit a pair of free throws for a 72-67 lead with 37 seconds left.
The Tigers missed a couple of late shots but could only get as close to 72-69 on a late basket by Layton Giltner with 4.7 seconds to go.
Josh Bridges hit a free throw to seal the win with 1.8 seconds left.
Christian County has now won three of its last four games and improved to 3-11 and 1-0 in District 8. Hopkinsville slipped to 4-10 and is now 1-1 in district play.
Rowe led the Colonels with 29 points and Rahsean Stevenson added 18. Zion Acree also had 13 points for the Colonels. Hopkinsville was paced by Jonovan Leavell’s 28 points. James Bradley Jr. added 19.
Christian County improves to 3-11 and 1-0 in District 8. The Colonels have now won three of their last four games. Meanwhile, Hopkinsville slips to 4-10 and is 1-1 in district play.
The Colonels are scheduled to play Triad, Ill., on Saturday at McCracken County, weather permitting. Hopkinsville is set to play host to Logan County Saturday, weather permitting.
