Heads were turned during the 2025 General Assembly as legislators voted to override the Governor’s veto on HB 216.
Representative Myron Dossett sponsored HB 216 and says the bill aims to level the playing field for employees of the Kentucky Department of Agriculture and grants them equal access to apply for and receive financial awards from programs that they have no authority over.
Dossett says it’s wrong for any individual working in the Kentucky Department of Agriculture to be denied access, especially since many of them have an agriculture background and farms. He questions the governor’s decision to veto the bill and wonders whether the same stance would be taken if the issue involved the transportation or education sectors.Â
Dossett says the veto was a surprise, and he appreciates his colleagues in the House and Senate for looking past this argument.
The veto was quickly overridden during the final days of the 2025 session of the Kentucky General Assembly.
