Rain to stick around this week before drying out in the weekend

Hopefully you’ve enjoyed a break in the dry weather with all our recent rain, because it’s likely to stick around through at least the rest of the work week.

Daily chances for rain and rumbles of thunder will call western Kentucky home for the next few days, with Meteorologist Sean Poulos with the National Weather Service in Paducah saying the good news is there’s no severe weather in the forecast, and all this rain is helping to bust our drought.

In fact, they’re expecting most the area to see a marked improvement in drought conditions, when this week’s U.S. Drought Monitor reports is updated.

In the 8-to-14-day outlook, it’s looking like things will dry out some, with less precipitation than average in the data and above average temperatures in store. Then in the long-range outlook, Poulus says it’s looking increasingly likely that an El Nino weather pattern will settle in around September, bringing warmer and drier fall time conditions with it.

But for this week, there’s no real threats in the forecast, outside from standing water in the usual low-lying and poor drainage areas.
