Quick thinking and swift action likely saved the Kuttawa Harbor Marina from being damaged, after a boat caught fire Sunday evening.
According to the Kuttawa Volunteer Fire Department, firefighters with that department and the Eddyville Fire Department were called to the Marina around 7 p.m. for reports of a boat fire. Upon arrival, it was discovered that quick-thinking individuals already on scene had been able to push the boat from the dock and out into Lake Barkley, away from the marina.
Officials say their swift action helped prevent would could have been catastrophic damage to the marina and surround vessels. Crews were able to confirm that no fire extended to the marina or its infrastructure.
The fire on the boat itself was extinguished through a careful, multi-agency operation that knocked down the fire while keep debris in the water to a minimum, though a second fire did ignite at one point due to spilled fuel.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
Numerous agencies assisted in the incident, including Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Lyon County EMS, East Marshall Fire Department, Lyon County Emergency Management Water Response Unit, South Marshall Fire Department, Kentucky Utilities, and Kentucky Fish & Wildlife.
