Public Library invites community to summer reading finale party

Mari-Alice Jasper from the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library appeared on WHOP on Monday and shared that the library’s Summer Reading Program is coming to a close and their Popsicles in the Park program is making a pit stop in Hopkinsville.

The library’s Summer Reading Program kicked-off on June 1 and gives participants a chance to win prizes for their reading progress. The theme of this year’s reading program is “Adventure Begins,” which serves to push readers to explore genres that they may not typically read or find books that are about adventure, nature and exploration.

Readers in the program have tracked their reading hours and after they achieve their first five hours, they receive a prize bag and a raffle ticket. For every five hours logged, readers will earn another raffle ticket increasing their odds of walking away with a prize.

The reading program concludes on Saturday, July 13 at 10 a.m. and Jasper says they will host their foam party finale at the library where prizes will be raffled off.

Despite the program coming to a close on Saturday, Jasper says there is still time for those interested to participate and backlog their hours if they have read over the summer.

Jasper says they look forward to showing their appreciation to those who participated in the reading program and are hoping for some nice weather on Saturday. Over the summer the library has also been hosting its program, Popsicles in the Park, a mobile story time where the children attending can get free books and popsicles.

The outreach program has been to Cerulean, Oak Grove, Lafayette and Pembroke and Jasper says the program will be at DeBow Park in Hopkinsville on July 20 at 10 a.m.
