Police charge Hopkinsville man with burglary for illegal store entry

Hopkinsville Police responded to an alarm at the local Ross and found the store’s front glass door reportedly broken by 50-year-old Joseph Tidwell of Hopkinsville who they charged with third-degree burglary on Friday.

After responding to the alarm, police found Tidwell at the scene who reportedly told them people were chasing him in an attempt to kill him. Tidwell then told officers that he broke the store’s front door and entered the building in order to trigger the alarm for law enforcement to come to the scene and help him.

The report does not mention any other individuals besides Tidwell at the scene.

As officers were searching Tidwell’s person, they found a glass pipe which the report states is commonly used for smoking drugs.

Tidwell was charged with third-degree burglary, possession of drug paraphernalia and first-degree criminal mischief.
