Police arrest Hopkinsville man for fleeing from traffic stop

Hopkinsville Police arrested 40-year-old Christopher Winters of Hopkinsville on Monday after he reportedly fled from a traffic stop.

According to a report from police, officers witnessed Winters make an improper lane change on Fort Campbell Boulevard as he was attempting to turn into the Citi Trends parking lot. Officers conducted a traffic stop on Winters’ car and reportedly smelt a strong marijuana odor.

After the officer asked for his license and registration, Winters reportedly fled in his car northbound on the boulevard. He made his way onto Russellville Road and reportedly began throwing bags of narcotics out of the window.

The pursuit ended at the intersection of East 9th Street and McLean Avenue when Winters reportedly loss control of the car. Winters was arrested and a search of his vehicle reportedly unveiled 19 grams of cocaine, marijuana, wrapping papers, rubber bands, bags and around $20,000.

Winters was charged with first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree fleeing or evading police, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, first-degree criminal mischief, possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with physical evidence, possession of marijuana, operating a vehicle on a suspended license and other lesser charges.
