Pennyrile Counties see lower unemployment in December 2025

By News Reporter Gabby Cedano

Unemployment rates fell across all 120 Kentucky counties from December 2024 to December 2025, according to new data from the Kentucky Center for Statistics.

In the Pennyrile region, Christian, Todd and Trigg counties all had unemployment rate decreases. Christian County recorded a 4.3 % unemployment rate in December, down from 6% a year earlier and lower than November’s 5.3%. Todd County continued to rank among the lowest in the state with a 2.9% rate, an improvement from 3.8% last year. Trigg County also saw progress, reporting 3.8% unemployment compared to 5.4% in December 2024.

Overall, the Pennyrile region posted a 3.8% unemployment rate, while Kentucky’s statewide rate declined to 3.5%. Woodford County had the lowest rate in the state at 2.7% and Magoffin County had the highest at 7.4%.

Since county-level rates are not seasonally adjusted, officials recommend comparing the data only to the same month in previous years. Unemployment statistics are based on estimates meant to measure trends rather than count every person working. Civilian labor force figures include non-military workers and those actively seeking employment, but they do not include Kentuckians who have not looked for work within the past four weeks.
