Panthers’ quick start spells doom for Warriors

Dawson Springs jumped out to a 34-7 first quarter lead and never looked back as the Panthers routed host Heritage Christian Academy 77-51 on Saturday.

Panthers senior Montgomery Johnston scored 20 of his 26 points in the first quarter. Rex Blue was almost as hot, as he poured in 14 in the first half while leading Dawson to a 57-22 advantage at the break. Blue finished with 22 points.

Heritage senior guard Jason Leek, who is the state’s second leading scorer, ended the night with 35 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Cooper Kirkman had six rebounds for HCA, which slipped to 4-12 on the season.

The Warriors will play host to Community Christian on Tuesday night.

Dawson stopped a three-game losing streak and improved to 9-9 on the season.
