NWS reports EF-2 tornadoes touched down in Todd, Christian counties Friday night

The National Weather Service in Paducah has been conducting damage surveys all weekend following Friday evening’s severe weather, and they’re reporting almost more tornado and damaging wind tracks than can kept up with.

Let’s start with Todd County—officials are reporting that an EF-2 tornado touched down in the Allegre area and tracked its way towards Elkton, destroying a trailer and several chicken houses. It started along Shaw Ovil Road, with a max width of 200 yards and peak winds of 120 miles per hour.  It would travel approximately six miles before lifting west of Highway 181.

An EF-2 tornado touched down in the Casky area, starting just off Highway 164-Newstead Road and then heading eastward, uprooting dozens of trees, snapping power poles and significant damage to a few barns. It would have a max width of 225 yards and peak winds of 118 miles per hour.  It would make it all the way through the Sheffield Downs subdivision behind the James E. Bruce Convention Center before lifting just east of Highway 109.

This tornado occurred within a broader area of straight line winds that caused widespread damage across southern Christian County.

The National Weather Service will continue conducting weather surveys over the next few days.  At least 19 individuals were killed in Friday’s storms state-wide, but Christian and Todd counties blessedly made it through with no injuries reported.
