Novelis receives workforce training grant

To support growing workforces across Kentucky, Gov. Andy Beshear announced that multiple industries across the state, including Novelis in Guthrie, received workforce training grants.

Novelis opened in Todd County in 2021 and the facility recycles aluminum for car parts.

At Thursday’s Team Kentucky Update, Beshear shared that Novelis was given a workforce grant through the Bluegrass State Skills Corporation. The $100,000 grant will go toward workforce training for 197 employees.

With the grant, Novelis Plant Manager, Thomas Lilienthal says they have already trained 100 people who previously did not have manufacturing skills, recently provided equipment repair and maintenance training and have also launched a leadership skills program.

Lilienthal thanked Beshear and the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development for the funding and says their impact has given Novelis a strong start in Kentucky.

According to the Governor’s Office August’s workforce training grant approvals will support over 1,100 employees in the state.
