The 17th-ranked Christian County Colonels’ baseball team got a shutout performance from Andrew Mayes and Eddie Davis and knocked off No. 3-ranked McCracken County 2-0 in eight innings Thursday in a high school baseball game in Paducah.
Mayes and Davis combined to strike out eight batters and only allowed two hits on the night.
Gavin Mitchell had the game-winning single to drive in Gage Montes. William McCart, who was running for Mitchell, also scored on a single by Sebastian Dazey.
Davis retired the Mustangs in order in the bottom of the eighth to secure the win.
Andrew Mayes started the game on the mound for Christian County. The senior right-hander went four innings and only gave up one hit while striking out three.
Dazey had two of Christian County’s three hits on the day.
The Colonels return to action tonight at home against Graves County.
